What to do through the growing season

Plant Out
1 Apr to 15 MayPlant young plants around 1st April - 15th May in a sunny, free-draining spot. Set them at the same depth they were in the pot, space them apart, and water in thoroughly straight after planting.

Water Until Established
1 Apr to 12 Jun Dates as each sowing reaches this stageKeep the soil evenly moist from 1st April through 12th June while the roots settle. Water at the base in dry spells, especially in containers, but avoid leaving the compost sodden.

Deadhead Flowers
15 Jun to 17 OctStart deadheading from 15th June and keep going until 17th October. Remove faded blooms back to a side shoot or leaf joint to keep the plant flowering for longer.

Cut Back Stems
17 Oct to 16 NovAfter flowering finishes, cut back tired stems from 17th October to 16th November. Leave the crown intact and trim to tidy growth rather than cutting hard into the base.
