What to do through the growing season

    Plant Out

    9 Apr to 23 May

    Plant young plants around 9th April - 23rd May in a sunny, free-draining spot. Set them at the same depth they were in the pot, space them apart, and water in thoroughly straight after planting.

    Water Until Established

    9 Apr to 20 Jun Dates as each sowing reaches this stage

    Keep the soil evenly moist from 9th April through 20th June while the roots settle. Water at the base in dry spells, especially in containers, but avoid leaving the compost sodden.

    Deadhead Flowers

    23 Jun to 9 Oct

    Start deadheading from 23rd June and keep going until 9th October. Remove faded blooms back to a side shoot or leaf joint to keep the plant flowering for longer.

    Cut Back Stems

    9 Oct to 8 Nov

    After flowering finishes, cut back tired stems from 9th October to 8th November. Leave the crown intact and trim to tidy growth rather than cutting hard into the base.
