What to do through the growing season

Plant Out
4 Apr to 18 MayPlant young plants around 4th April - 18th May in a sunny, free-draining spot. Set them at the same depth they were in the pot, space them apart, and water in thoroughly straight after planting.

Water Until Established
4 Apr to 15 Jun Dates as each sowing reaches this stageKeep the soil evenly moist from 4th April through 15th June while the roots settle. Water at the base in dry spells, especially in containers, but avoid leaving the compost sodden.

Deadhead Flowers
18 Jun to 16 OctStart deadheading from 18th June and keep going until 16th October. Remove faded blooms back to a side shoot or leaf joint to keep the plant flowering for longer.

Cut Back Stems
16 Oct to 15 NovAfter flowering finishes, cut back tired stems from 16th October to 15th November. Leave the crown intact and trim to tidy growth rather than cutting hard into the base.
