10 Sept to 8 NovPlant bare-root crowns around 10th September - 8th November in fertile, free-draining soil. Set the buds no more than below the surface. Space plants apart. Choose a permanent spot. Do not move them. Deeper planting is why they fail to flower.

Water In and Establish
10 Sept to 5 Aug 2027 Dates as each sowing reaches this stageWater well after planting, then keep the soil moist through the first growing season, from 10th September to 5th August 2027. Water at the base in dry spells. Do not leave the soil soggy. Established plants do not need routine watering.

Support Heavy Stems
3 Apr to 24 May 2027From 3rd April 2027, put hoops or canes in before the stems reach . It is easier than propping up a full plant later. Leave the supports in through flowering.

Deadhead Spent Blooms
24 May to 17 Jul 2027Deadhead fading blooms from 24th May 2027 to 17th July 2027. Cut each spent flower back to a strong leaf. Leave the foliage in place to feed the root.

Cut Back Herbaceous Growth
11 Oct to 8 Nov 2027Cut the stems down only once the tops have yellowed and died, during 11th October - 8th November 2027. Clear old stems and fallen leaves to reduce peony wilt.
