Planting Calendar
Plant Out
28 Mar – 9 MayPlant rooted cuttings or young plants around 28th March - 9th May in a sheltered, sunny spot. Set them at the same depth they were growing before, and firm the soil gently so the roots make good contact. Water in thoroughly straight away.
Water Through Establishment
18 Apr – 30 MayKeep the plants just moist through 18th April - 30th May, checking them in dry spells. Water at the base rather than over the foliage, and stop once the plants are clearly rooted and making new growth.
Deadhead Spent Stems
2 Jun – 29 SeptRemove faded flower spikes from 2nd June - 29th September to keep the plant tidy and extend the display. Cut back to a side shoot or just above fresh growth, but do not cut into old bare wood.
Prune After Flowering
17 Jul – 16 AugPrune straight after flowering from 17th July - 16th August. Trim the green growth back lightly to keep a neat mound, but always leave some leafy growth on each stem because lavender will not reshoot from old wood.
Tidy For Winter
15 Sept – 29 OctTidy the plant from 15th September - 29th October by removing dead flower stalks and any damaged growth. Leave the woody framework in place, and do not hard cut the shrub back.
