Plant Out
19 Mar – 19 AprPlant rooted plants or cuttings around 19th March - 19th April in fertile, free-draining soil. Set them at the same depth they were growing before, then water in thoroughly straight away.
Water Until Established
3 Apr – 2 JulKeep the soil evenly moist from 3rd April while new roots form. Water at the base in dry spells and avoid wetting the leaves, especially in damp weather.
Feed and Deadhead
3 May – 25 Novevery 2 weeksFrom 3rd May through 25th November, feed every 14 days with a high-potash liquid feed and remove faded blooms as they fade. Pinch or cut off spent flowers back to a leaf joint so the plant keeps flowering for longer.
Tie In Tall Stems
17 Apr – 1 AugCheck plants from 17th April and stake or tie in taller stems before they flop in wind and rain. Use soft ties and keep the plant open so air can move through it.
Cut Back Growth
26 Nov – 25 DecAfter flowering finishes around 26th November - 25th December, cut stems back to a low framework once frost has blackened the top growth. Leave the crown in place if you want the plant to overwinter.
